Why Slow Stitching Is the Perfect Creative Break From Screen Time

Image
In a world where so much of our time is spent looking at screens, many of us are craving something different. Something quieter. Something slower. Something we can do with our hands instead of our thumbs. Slow stitching is one of those rare creative practices that invites you to step away from the noise and return to a more thoughtful rhythm. With just a needle, thread, and a bit of fabric, you can create moments of calm that feel surprisingly restorative. And the best part? You don’t need to be an expert to begin.  Find out more in my latest YouTube video series, 5-Minutes of Creative Screen Free Time. The Problem With Constant Screen Time Screens are woven into almost every part of modern life. We work on laptops, scroll through phones, watch shows to relax, and even spend our creative time online. While technology certainly has its place, it can also leave us feeling overstimulated, distracted, and disconnected from our own creativity. Many people notice the same...

From tablets to TVs to smartphones, digital devices are woven into everyday life — and while technology can be helpful, many parents are starting to ask: How much is too much? Studies continue to show that excessive screen time can impact attention spans, sleep patterns, creativity, and even social development. As parents, we want balance. We want tools that make life easier — but we also want our children to grow, imagine, create, and engage with the world around them. That’s where intentional, screen-free activities come in. Why Screen-Free Activities Support Healthy Development Screen-free time isn’t about eliminating technology entirely. It’s about creating space for: Independent thinking Problem-solving Fine motor skill development Creativity and imagination Real-world interaction When kids use their hands — writing, drawing, flipping ...

Craft Letter Subscription For Snail Mail Lovers

Image
Craft Letter Subscription for Snail Mail Lovers In a world that moves fast and lives online, snail mail feels almost rebellious. There’s something deeply satisfying about sitting down with paper, ink, and intention, creating something by hand, and sending it off into the world. For those of us who love letters, journaling, and paper crafts, snail mail isn’t outdated. It’s meaningful. That’s exactly why I created my Craft Letter Subscription , a slow, creative experience designed for snail mail lovers who want a reason to keep writing, creating, and connecting. It pairs beautifully with creative journaling, memory...

How My Home Office Became My Creative Art Studio

Image
How My Home Office Became My Creative Art Studio For years, my home office was just that: a place for paperwork, bills, and the endless shuffle of “to-dos.” A practical space, but not a soul-filling one. Then life shifted. My health changed, my routines slowed, and I found myself searching for ways to feel useful, creative, and connected again. What I discovered was transformative: with a few adjustments, my office became my creative art studio—My YouTube channel, @Marketsofsunshine was born  and it completely changed how I view myself and my purpose. This story isn’t just about rearranging furniture. It’s about women over 45—especially those navigating health challenges—reclaiming their creativity, their voice, and their sense of connection through something unexpected: YouTube. Not for followers. Not for money. But for the joy of sharing, teaching, and building community. Because that’s where true fulfillment lives. Why Creativity Matters Even More After 45 When health is...

Welcome to Markets of Sunshine's Official Blog, Sunshine Maker's Club!

Image
I want to share a little background story about myself and how I came to create this little blog for my business.  I've had a business name for over 10 years called Markets of Sunshine that started on Etsy and here on blogger.  Sadly, the domain name was about to expire and I was not notified and someone stole it and is wanting me to pay hundreds of dollars to get it back.   NEW NAME, SAME PRODUCTS Therefore, I started this blog to first of all share that news and secondly to create a name that is closely aligned with my business name on Etsy and tells exactly what you'll find here and on the internet about me.  I've had a Facebook business page called, Markets of Sunshine and a Pinterest account and a YouTube channel .  On Twitter it's called MarketsSunshine because they don't allow enough letters for the whole name. But, I'm not upset about this at all.  I found a way around it by starting this new blog with a new name.  My email list and...
